SHAH ALAM, March 5 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) on Friday directed six companies to immediately stop issuing the halal certificate and logo to food traders and outlets in Selangor.
Jais director Datuk Mohammed Khusrin Munawi said the six companies were Bahtera Lagenda Sdn Bhd, Islamic Food and Research Council, SAS-H Consultancy, Perak Religious Officer Association, Halal Food Council S.E.A and IFANCA International.
He said Jais had neither given its consent nor recognition to these companies to issue the halal certificate and logo to several food outlets in the state, especially coffee shops and foodcourts.
KUCHING, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- There have been no cases in Sarawak of the use of fake halal certificates that had been bought, instead only four cases of misuse of the word "halal" in business had been detected in the state in the last three years.
Assistant Minister (Islamic Affairs) in the Chief Minister's Office Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman said among methods used were displaying self-made halal logos or use of government-issued logos when actually the food served was not halal or sold mixed with non-halal food.
"Till now we detected four cases in Sarawak in the last three years and they were compounded," he told reporters after presenting Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) aid amounting to RM79,293 to 64 recipients here today.
KUANTAN 8 Feb.
Ketua Penolong Pengarah Bahagian Penyelidikan JAIP, Zakaria Mohamad berkata, pihaknya hairan mengapa ramai pengusaha hotel mengabaikannya sedang syarat mendapatkan sijil halal tidaklah membebankan.
ISLAMIC banks are expected to move more deeply into riskier, equity-based financing as they seek alternatives to controversial debt mechanisms like the tawarruq, a prominent syariah scholar said yesterday.
Syariah banks have been reluctant to adopt equity models like the mudaraba to avoid taking on more risk, but there is growing pressure for the industry to reduce its reliance on debt instruments.
The slow shift towards more risk-sharing structures is also expected to expose investors to greater uncertainty, with returns on investments based on performance rather than guarantees.
THE halal park in Bukit Minyak, Seberang Prai in Penang, has attracted good response with the first phase, which covers more than 11ha of the 53ha-park, almost all taken up.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the phase was nearly filled up by companies involved in niche and high-technology halal activities such as manufacturing bulk liquid packaging, bio-tech and organic products.
“We are now receiving applications for the second phase,” he said at the inaugural Penang Interna- tional Halal Conference 2010 at a hotel in Penang on Saturday.
